M For Mother

A harrowing story of the long-term consequences of the Iran-Iraq war. A couple expecting a child are forced to make an impossible decision after being exposed to chemical weapons. They discover their unborn baby has inadvertently become a victim of war after being diagnosed with birth defects. As their relationship becomes more and more fraught, we see their journey in dealing with their tragic situation and the harsh reality that the devastation goes beyond the war.

Sepideh and Soheil are a couple who had met each other during the war and now they are awaiting their first child. However the doctor tells them their child may be born with disabilities due to Sepideh’s chemical poisoning during the war. After Farzaneh, Sepideh’s close friend, finds out about her situation, she feels guilty because her negligence was the reason Sepideh had not gotten a gas mask, but she is afraid to tell her the truth. Soheil is now one of the high-ranked officials in the ministry of foreign affairs. He tries to convince Sepideh to consider abortion, but despite all the risks and difficulties, she ignores him and gives birth to her child. After the child is born, Soheil leaves her. Sepideh however, raises her son, Saeed, despite all the troubles. After ten years, Saeed now also has respiratory problems besides his walking difficulties, but Sepideh never gave up on him and he is even preparing as the solo violinist in an orchestral live performance of the children with disabilities. Soheil visits them after so long for the funeral of Sepideh’s mother, but she ignores him. Her cancer develops and she starts chemotherapy. Farzaneh tells her about her mistake during the war, but she still keeps her high spirit despite all her pains and sorrows. On the day of performance, she gets invited to the venue by Soheil. She is worried if Saeed will play his parts right.

«سپیده » و «سهیل» همرزم های دوران جنگ با هم ازدواج می کنند و بعد منتظر تولد اولین فرزندشان می شوند. به زودی پزشکان متخصص تشخیص می دهند که مسمومیت شیمیایی « سپیده » از جنگ، روی جنین او یقیناً اثر گذاشته و احتمال معلولیت فرزند وجود دارد. در این شرایط «فرزانه» نزدیک ترین دوست «سپیده » که اشتباه او باعث شد تا در زمان انفجار، سپیده به ماسک ضد شیمیایی دسترسی پیدا نکند، بسیار رنج می برد اما توان فاش کردن حقیقت را با دوستش ندارد. «سهیل» که حالا از عالی رتبه های وزارت امور خارجه است، بسیار سعی می کند تا سپیده فرزندش را سقط کند امّا سپیده با وجود آگاهی از خطر بارداری، نوزادش را به دنیا می آورد و از این پسری، سهیل او را ترکی می کند و سپیده، بی توجه به موقعیت جدیدش، پسرش «سعید» را در شرایطی دشوار بزرگ می کند. ده سال بعد «سعید» علاوه بر مشکل حرکتی، مشکل تنفسی هم پیدا می کند امّا سپیده علیرغم همه ی موانع و سختی ها، با تمام وجود از او مراقبت کرده و حتی نواختن «ویولن» را نیز به پسرش آموزش می دهد و آماده اش می کند تا در کنسرت معلولان به عنوان تکنواز شرکت کند… «سهیل» یک بار به بهانه ی مرگ مادر «سپیده»، به دیدارشان می آید اما «سپیده» توجهی به او نمی کند… بیماری سپیده به حدی می رسد که نیاز به شیمی درمانی پیدا می کند، معهذا در بدترین شرایط جسمی، حتی در واکنش به اعتراف «فرزانه» به اشتباهش در زمان جنگ، روحیه اش را حفظ کرده و در بستر بیماری علاوه بر دعوت سهيل به محل اجرای کنسرت، نگران است که مبادا سعید نت ها را اشتباه کند
