Among his father’s furniture, Elahe finds a picture. The picture is signed by a person named Parivash. Led by her curiosity, Elahe looks for the person to whom the picture belongs. Her step-mother, Narges, who is being hospitalized, has no idea about the picture. After her inquiries, Elahe finds out the truth; Parivash is her own mother. Also she becomes aware of the fact that her father was distraught over the death of his wife, until he has met a woman, named Narges who looked like Parivash. Narges has never been able to substitute for Parivash; thereafter, the initial kind affections between them fade and they treat each other with a cold indifference. The lack of attention and affection between the couple, soon makes Narges very sick so that she is hospitalized. Being touched by finding these realities, Elahe appreciates her step-mother, Narges, for taking care of and bringing her up, and she makes her father to appreciate Narges as well.

الهه در بین اثاثیه پدرش تابلویی با امضای پریوش می یابد و کنجکاوانه پیگیر جستجوی صاحب تابلو می شود. نامادریش،نرگس که در بیمارستان بستری است، چیزی از تابلو نمیداند، امّا نتیجه جستجوها، سرانجام الهه را به این واقعیت می رساند که پریوش مادرش بوده است و بعد به این حقیقت دست می یابد که پدر پس از مرگ پریوش، تنها زمانی آرام گرفت که با نرگس که شباهت زیادی به پریوش داشت، آشنا گردید .نرگس هرگز موفق به پر کردن جای خالی پریوش نشد و به زودی التهاب و گرمای اولیه فرو نشست و بی تفاوتی حاکم بر زندگیشان گردید. عدم توجه و سردی رابطه بین پدرونرگس ،سرانجام  نرگس را روانه بیمارستان می کند.الهه که از این وضعیت متأثر شده، ضمن قدردانی از او که چون مادر او را سرپرستی و بزرگ کرد، موقعیتی فراهم می آورد تا پدرش نیز سپاسگزار نرگس باشد
